Charles Dickerson - CAD III Management

President Dave Stechholz opened the meeting at 7:30 am with the pledge of allegiance followed by Larry Stephens’s Invocation. Pres. Dave gave a brief history of when the Livonia-Clarenceville Rotary Club was chartered on Oct. 15th, 1988. Notable is that our current members, Sharon Pommerville and Bob Carris were charter members of the Livonia AM Rotary Club.

Pres. Dave shared that our prospective student abroad candidate, Maria, has decided not to participate in the Youth Exchange Outbound Program but LAMR can still promote this program in our community high schools.

On everyone’s mind this week is the Meal-Packing event on Sat. Oct. 12 from 9-2:00 PM at St. Edith’s Church in Livonia. Tammy Bonifield announced that we have collected $15,000 in donations, but our goal is $18,000. Rotary members are encouraged to reach out to prospective donors to meet that goal. As an incentive, Tammy offered members the opportunity to donate to the cause and that she would match the donation up to $500. Several club members made cash donations on the spot. Tammy also stressed that 40 more meal packing volunteers are needed.

Time was spent discussing the possibility of the LAMR Club participating in the Garden City and the Livonia Holiday Parades. The Garden City parade is Nov. 30 at 10:00 am and the Livonia Parade is Dec. 8 at 4:00 pm.

A Sign-up Genius has been created for the Garden City Parade and Pres. Dave is looking into how to get a spot for the Livonia parade.

The speaker for today, Charles A. Dickerson III, is an entrepreneur, and property developer, and manager of his own company, CADS III. Charles is proud of his graduation from Howard University, where he met his wife. She is an OBGYN, and they have three young adult children. Charles has a special relationship with our Rotary member, Mike Ladwig from years ago, when Charles opened a UPS store. His current passion and project is completing an 18,000 sq. ft. apartment building just east of the DIA in Detroit. Charles is a longtime resident of Detroit in the Palmer Woods area but is selling his house and moving into one of the apartments in his building. With State and City grants and investors, Charles is giving back to his city, by building and providing a living environment that consists of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments plus fully furnished micro units. Some apartments will rent at Market Value and others will be income based. There will be a tenant amenity on the ground floor that will be a barber shop. Occupancy is expected for November of 2024 with 60% of apartments already pre-leased.

Charles is active in the development of young men groups in the Church of Christ and holds high value of honor and honesty in business and everyday life. For further information on Charles apartment rental he can be reached at cadickerson@cadsiii.com.

Ending remarks included a reminder to sign up to help at the Spaghetti Dinner and to continue to find sponsors for the placemat ads at $150 a spot. Meeting adjourned at 8:35 am.
